How to repair the brakes of your car on your own

Are the brakes of your car giving you trouble?

You need to repair them then.

Now, you have two options:

Either you can visit your nearby auto mechanic and spend over $200 on the repair

 or

Even better, you can repair it at home.

Yes, that’s possible. All you need is to follow a series of simple steps that we’re mentioning here in this post.

What do you need to know first?

Depending on which vehicle you’re driving, there are two types of brakes:

Disk brakes

Step 1 of Brakes

Typically found in new cars, often on four wheels (for small cars and trucks).

When these brakes are applied, the brake pads are pressed down on a spinning wheel and the wheel stops.

Drum brakes

Step_2

Found in old car models. They contain shoes which are inside the drum. When you press the brake pedal, these shoes are pressed against the interior of the steel drum and hence the car stops.

Depending on each brake type, the process of replacing brakes might differ.

So, let’s go through the journey of how to:

Replace disc brake pads:

Step 1. Park your car at a suitable place and place it on jack stands

Step 2. Remove the tires for which you’re replacing the brake pads

 Step_4

Step 3. The brake disc and the caliper holding the brake pads will appear in front of you.

Step_5

Step 4. Remove the caliper.

You’ll see the brake pads:

Step 5. Remove the brake pads

Now before we replace them, we’ll check if the rotor disc is fine. For this, we’ll have to take both the caliper and the caliper bracket off.

Step 6. Replace the brake pads and make sure use proper adhesive

Step_12

Step 7. Put the caliper bracket back in place

Step 8. Push new brake pads in.

Also, make sure you replace all the faulty equipment during the repair.

Step 8. Put everything back in

That’s it. You’re done.
